Hannah's Chairs Archive: Auction 2006!

The Hannah House Chairs 2006 event, held on June 25th at a gala event at the Daniel Webster Room at the Hanover Inn, was a great success, following upon the successful first-year event in 2005.

Above left, a chair that tells a tall tale, with the whimsical title, "Bantam of the Opera." This delightful story chair is the work of artist Gary Hamel. The host site for this chair is APD. Right, Cathy Cone's "Abstract Fall," a chair that captures the feelings evoked by a cloud of fallen leaves swirling in the wind. See it before the auction, on display at The Baker's Studio in White River Junction.

At left, "Coccinelles" (the French word for Ladybugs) by artist Cecile Galena. Love those red-green color contrasts with the pale accents in the leaves! Look for the actual chair on pre-auction display at the Powerhouse Mall.

Above, "Classical New England" by artist Bill Scavone requires a 360 degree view to appreciate all it has to offer. From the front, it looks fairly plain. But the sides and back are accented with the images that have come to symbolize Northern New England, from the famous white birch to critters like loons and Black Bears. On the left and right sides of the seat are figures engaged in various sports activities native to our region, such as skiiing, biking, and rock climbing. Be sure to catch this one in larger view in the slide show! To preview the actual chair up close and personal, go to Hanover Outdoor.

Expect the bidding to be brisk among area chocoholics for "Chocolate Lover's Chair" (right) by the artists at Wild Apple Graphics. The slats of an Adirondack Chair's seat provide an ideal space to recollect the rows inside a box of chocolates.

Artist Ethan Kilhan, a student at Hanover High School, gives us "Hot Seat," whose strong color swirls against a speckled background provide a hot contrast. You'll find yourself irresistibly drawn to this one! Check it out at King Arthur Flour.

This astonishing "Sketch Book Chair" (AKA "Sketchy Seat") is covered all over in black and white "sketches" subtly accented here and there with light browns. It's another chair that needs a 360 degree view to be fully appreciated. (You can see it in the slide show here and on display at Hanover Park.) This amazing chair is a collaborative work by Elizabeth Green's Drawing II class at Hanover High School and involved 3 teachers and 17 students - a 20-artist team!
